March 2017 - Northern Lights Film Society dissolved.

The Northern Lights Film Society was formed in 2004 by a group of friends who wanted to be able to show the type of films they wanted to see and show them to the local, rural community. At the time there were few options for film lovers, Aviemore had no cinema, VHS was the standard for home viewing and the unreliability of trips to Inverness in the winter period meant that a film society would be popular and so it proved for over a decade.

It was based in the Badenoch & Strathspey area, with members in Newtonmore, Kingussie, Insh, Kincraig, Aviemore, Inverdruie, Coylumbridge, Boat of Garten, Carrbridge & Grantown on Spey and ran successfully until March 2017 when it became apparent that the membership levels had declined to a point whereby the costs of running the films and hiring the venue were far outstripping a reasonable membership subscription.  Modern film viewing had also diversified to such an extent that film fans can stream a film for instant viewing 24 hours a day.  So at the AGM in March 2017 a vote was put to the attendees who voted to dissolve the society, with the meagre bank account sum being donated to a local creative charity.
